St Anthony Catholic High School

St. Anthony offers a supervised comprehensive boarding program. This program is available to international students as well as other out-of-town students. St. Anthony welcomes students from all over the world. The students are supported with cultural awareness opportunities and strong English as a Second Language program through the University of the Incarnate Word.

Overview:  Located in the heart of San Antonio, St. Anthony Catholic High School and Incarnate Word High School are part of a unique partnership, the Brainpower Connection, with the University of Incarnate Word.  The small size of the boarding program and its integration into a mostly commuter campus ensures that your student has opportunities to make many American friends who live near the school.  The unique University partnership allows students to walk or take the shuttle to use the University’s library, gym, cafeteria, tutoring center and many other resources.

Residence Hall:  Both male and female boarders live at Madeleine Hall on the campus of Incarnate Word High School. Boys reside on the first floor and the girls live on the third floor.  Most students have a roommate. If space allows, seniors have the privilege of a single room. After school students have  free time to hang out with friends, play ping pong, visit the University, rest or watch TV.  Study hours are from 7 pm to 9 pm and then chores and quiet hours. Students are to be in their rooms by 11 pm.

Program Goals:  The boarding program stresses the health, safety and education of each child.  An on-campus nurse is available during regular hours and on-call after hours. There is a doctor who visits campus regularly. We also have a close relationship with a 24 hour clinic within 10 minutes of the school.  The University has its own professional police force that provides safety and security to the University and the two high schools around the clock.  The staff of the boarding program is in constant communication with the administrators and teachers at the high schools to ensure that our students are doing well in school.

Activities: Activities are organized by floor or for the whole boarding program.  Weekend activities can include visiting the famous Riverwalk (a 10 minute drive), the Quarry (shopping, eating and movie theater within 5 minutes), performing community service (to fulfill their 25 hour requirement), attending a play at the University, visiting Wal-Mart and the grocery store or enjoying a day at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, a local amusement park.  Students, with parent permission, can also visit friends from school or family nearby if they check out properly.

Learning English: The Brainpower Connection also allows for a unique partnership with the ELS Language Center at the University. Students come to the University of Incarnate Word from around the world for its language program.  Through our partnership, students can move from beginning to transition level English in two and half years while taking classes as appropriate at the high schools. This unique arrangement helps students enter at any level of English ability and provides the support necessary to help them through to graduation.

Being a part of our community allows students to live in one of the largest cities in America, provides a small individualized boarding experience and the support of two high schools and a University.  We look forward to meeting you!
