Health Professions Program

A Pathway to College & Health Careers

The Health Professions Program at St. Anthony Catholic High School is a two-year program offered to students during their junior and senior years of high school. The program allows students to observe many healthcare occupations while achieving both high school and college credit hours. 

Through this program, the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) offers direct admit options for highly qualified first-year students that lead to advanced degrees in the following:

  • Nursing
  • Pharmacy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Optometry
  • Osteopathic Medicine

Student Experience

The classroom experiences, the experiences in the professional schools at the University of the Incarnate Word, and experiences in the health professions field will enable students to make decisions about their future as a healthcare professional.

Health Professions Learning Community

The learning community is a self-selected group of junior and senior students who will enjoy the benefits of sharing common academic and co-curricular experiences in the health professions while making new friends, exploring common interests, and being a part of a close community of peers.

Curriculum

The Health Professions Program’s curriculum consists of courses for high school credit and courses aligned with the UIW degree programs for dual credit.

Junior Year: Fall

  • Introduction to Health Occupations (High School Credit) Algebra I or Introduction to Probability and Statistics (Nursing) (Dual Credit)
  • Anatomy and Physiology I (Dual Credit)
  • Anatomy and Physiology I Lab (Dual Credit)

Junior Year: Spring

  • Experiences in the Health Professions (High School Credit)
  • Introduction to Philosophy (Dual Credit)
  • Anatomy and Physiology II (Dual Credit)
  • Anatomy and Physiology II Lab (Dual Credit)

Senior Year: Fall

  • Health Career Exploration (High School Credit)
  • Composition I (Dual Credit)
  • Chemical Principles I (Dual Credit)
  • Chemical Principles Lab (Dual Credit)

Senior Year:

  • Spring Practicum in Health Professions (High School Credit)
  • Composition II (Dual Credit)
  • Chemical Principles II (Dual Credit)
  • Chemical Principles II Lab (Dual Credit)
